Specialized Therapeutic Residence for Intellectual and Developmental Empowerment (S.T.R.I.D.E.)
STRIDE is a residential placement option for children and adolescents diagnosed with co-occuring Mental Health & Intellectual/Developmental Disability diagnoses.
The STRIDE program supports the recovery and Every Day Lives principles of the clients served by keeping the youth close to their home communities where family engagement and community inclusion is deemed critical for success. Clinical interventions are designed to emphasize developmentally appropriate experiences utilizing Applied Behavioral Analysis and current research and theory along with formal supports of the mental health systems. The philosophy is to focus on client self-determination and allow the individual and his/her family resources to drive the process.
The intent of the STRIDE program is to provide a coordinated service delivery system based upon the psychosocial interventions model, standard learning principles, behavioral management technologies and a structured environment in order to the return the individual in care back to his/her discharge place in a timely manner. It is anticipated that the length of stay will vary due to different factors with the targeted length around 9 -12 months.
Specialized classrooms have been designed to meet the needs of each individual’s IEP. Many options are available to meet the needs of individuals we serve. Autistic Support, Life Skills and additional Special Education programs have been designed to be in compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education and IDEA guidelines.
Beacon Light offers two STRIDE program locations. One in Bradford, PA and the other in Towanda, PA. Both facilities are 6-bed single bedroom programs.
